Forums: Connect with Another Mother Runner

A huge, sweaty welcome to the another mother runner forums, an exclusive but inclusive—that makes sense, right?—place to connect, chat, ask, analyze, and dream big with other runners. The beauty of this running forum is that, unlike our Facebook page, the status updates don’t float by in less than a day. Here they are, accessible whenever you need the 411.

Anything is game here: questions about training, nutrition, sports bras, leaking on the run, whatever. Two categories we think are pretty cool: a match.com for mother runners, where you can find a BRF (best running friend) and free gear swap, a place to find a home for your newish gear you never use. (The recipient pays only for shipping; thank you in advance for respecting this rule.)

So whatever you've got—IT band problems; stroller questions; a picture-perfect race; shoe issues—lay it on the collective us. If you'd like to nominate a category we forgot, email us at runmother [at] gmail [dot] com. We're all here to push each other across the finish line again and again.

Hi! I just finished my 3rd marathon in Chicago this past weekend. Yay! My marathon times are 5:45, 6:30, and now 5:50 respectively. No other way to say it...I'm slow. But I really want to go faster. I know that speedwork can help but I'm not sure how to incorporate it into my routine. How often? What kind of effort are we talking about? What else helps increase speed? Do I need to get leaner? Eat different food? I'm willing to try anything.

My typical year consists of doing a half-marathon in the spring and then a full marathon in the fall. So I'm hoping to PR on both races next year. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Jana

Have you used a training program in the past? The TLAM Own It program provides a variety of speed work and hills that should help. There are other free marathon programs as well. They would be a guide to adding some speed work.

I meant the TLAM Finish It plan which is plenty ambitious.
