ANOTHER
MOTHER RUNNER

Many Happy Miles in 2012

Welcome the new year--and plenty of new things.

2012 is shaping up to be a badass mother runner year for us. In addition to the launch of Train Like a Mother on March 20th, we're redesigning this very website as I type; the new another mother runner will be much more interactive, and, as I like to call it, a virtual aid station for all mother runners.

As you plan your race schedules for 2012, we wanted to put our preliminary schedule in front of you in case we can rendezvous at some point. We're trying to make it to more parts of the country that we haven't been before--Durham, Houston, Kansas City, and Indianapolis, for four--and hope to see some new faces, as well as many of your post-race smiles we've seen before. We're still ironing out some details, and will post them on the Run With Us page as we nail them down.

So that our kids--or our husbands--don't forget what we look like, we're trying to limit ourselves to about a race a month; that said, we don't have anything planned for November or December yet, so if you've got a suggestion for the end of the year or otherwise, let us know in the comments. (Please note: We're not RUNNING these races; we sell and/or talk at them. Phew, makes us tired just thinking about competing in all of them!)

Many happy miles in 2012 to all of you.

  1. anyone know of a discount code for non-Hawaii resident for 2012 Honolulu Marathon on Dec 9th? It’s $55 for non-residents until Jan 15th

  2. I ran the Cape Cod Marathon in Falmouth last fall and the course is beautiful so I am assuming he ZOOMA Cape Cod Half will be similar. I hope to meet you both there!

  3. Yay! Get in Gear! It’s a race I do every year because it was my first race ever and it was a game changer for me. They usually have a 25 pound salted nut roll at the expo there… can’t go wrong with that! 🙂

  4. Can’t wait to see the new website and soooo excited for the new book! You have a huge following here on the seacoast of NH (FYI, hint hint!! Flattest halves and fulls around are the Hampton Beach races!) but if I can get down to the cape I’d love to meet you inspiring ladies 😀

  5. Excited to see you ladies in Annapolis in June……Just getting back into my groove after baby #3 and sooo excited to hear a new book from you gals will be out soon! Also, still not over how tall SBS was….have to take another picture!!! 🙂

    Peace love Run!!!

  6. I know you are not looking to run, but if you are, our Daytona Beach Half Marathon is the best! You start at the Daytona Speedway, run to the beach and back. There’s no expo, just a few local vendors.

  7. I’m so excited to meet y’all at the amazing Hyatt at Lost Pines at the end of March! I’m actually also quite stoked to have been named an ambassador for the Austin ZOOMA race, and beyond thrilled to be able to promote running to women in Austin (the running itself makes me more sane, the women I run with do endlessly more than that!). Here’s to hoping for at least 2500 runners! If anyone is thinking about registering for the 5k or half-marathon I have a discount code I can provide. . .

    1. I’m signing up for the Austin half this week (before prices go up). I would love a discount code, Kimberly. I’m hoping to run with my husband and stay the night at the Hyatt.

  8. I am THRILLED you’ll be coming to Indy! I ran the Women’s Half last year (it’s first year) and it was a well organized race. Can’t wait to meet y’all! 🙂

  9. Come and do any number of Christmas Fun Runs or charity fundraisers in Nov/Dec in AUSTRALIA!
We’ve got loads of women runners, but we need more BAMRness here.

  10. That’s so exciting you’ll be in Fontana, WI again for the Zooma Great Lakes event. That is my hometown and I know those roads very well. I wish I could be there, but I’ll most likely be running the Chicago Marathon a few weeks before that and can’t make two trips back to the midwest from the west coast. Maybe I’ll send my mom to the Abbey to say hi to you!

  11. The Honolulu Marathon is Sunday, Dec 9 with the expo preceding several days prior. This was my first marathon and certainly a beautiful one with amazing “winter” weather. There are tons of mother runners here and a large following of military spouses. We’d love for y’all to make it here this year (although your families may insist on joining you for some R&R also!)!

  12. One word: Canada! We BAMRs would love to host you in the Great White North! The Around the Bay, the TOronto Women’s 1/2, you pick! Can’t wait to add TLAM to my library

    1. Second that!! CANADA!! Manitoba Marathon is the third largest marathon in Canada; however, the largest one run mainly by Manitobans!! Awesome!

  13. Can I Giddy up with a suggestion for November???
Philadelphia Marathon/Half is… I think 11/18. I’m registering for the Half this year.
    Giddy up to Philly!!! 🙂

  14. Sounds like an amazing schedule – need someone to carry your bags? And how about AUSTRALIA?! We have plenty of races you can add to your schedule. In Dec they are likely to be tri’s and it will be lovely and warm. Tempted?? 😉

  15. First weekend in December is the California International Marathon in Sacramento. Lots of runners of all types. A local mother runner (Deidre Fitzpatrick, local TV anchor) is on the board. Race is a BQ’er and a destination for people all over the world. Full Mary or a four leg relay. Super fun vibe…finish line ends at the state capital building.

    1. Nice, Nicole! That’s the one race we don’t know much about. But we are ALL about women’s races, and that one looks like a good one. Plus, as Dim indicated, we tried to space trips out a bit.

Last night, I jokingly said, “See you next year, kids” while putting kids to bed (it was NY Eve). My son got a STRICKEN look on his face, and asked in a panic, “WHERE are you going tonight, Mom?!?!” Yikes. I think I might have pushed the travel envelope a bit too far in 2011….

      See you in Indy, Nicole!

    1. Laura, you and me both! I looked hard for a women’s race in Bay Area (I left my heart in SF….), but all the ones I found conflicted with other races we were already committed to. Given our relative proximity to the Golden State, I’m still holding out hope for a trip there in 2012.

  16. I know this sounds insane, but Huntington, WV has a Marathon and Half Marathon in November. It is sponsored by HealthyHuntington.org. You may or may not know that Huntington, WV was named America’s most unhealthy city in 2010 (I think). Jamie Oliver came there in an effort to revamp school lunches. You guys could come and help inspire some WV mommies to get off the couch. I am the president of a local road running club in WV and we would help in any way we could. It’s a pretty flat course, if nothing else! And you get a full zip Brooks jacket for ding the full and a really nice medal. Think about it and please email me if you want to discuss it at all!

  17. There’s a great half marathon in Phoenix in November…the weather is great here that time of year. It’s usually around the second week… Would love to see/meet you both 🙂

  18. I’m super excited for the release of Train Like a Mother! I’m only 100 miles from Denver, so plan to do the Mother’s Day 5k and take a “me” day on March 22nd to see Dimity at The Tattered Cover.

    1. That would be awesome if you roadtripped for that talk/run in KC. We’re honored to be the featured speakers, and we’re really hoping for a strong turnout. Given your strong presence on here, it would be great to finally meet you in person. xo

  19. I have a suggestion for a November race – The Outer Banks! It is usually held on Veteran’s Day weekend. A 5k and 8k on Sat. and a half and full on Sun. It is a beautiful run. Think about it!

    1. There is also the Chick-Fil-A 8k in December in colonial Williamsburg, VA. You run through Christmas Town at Busch Gardens. Entry fee includes a free admission to Busch Gardens in the future. I didn’t get a chance to run it because I was sick, but it sounded like so much fun. The medal doubles as a Christmas tree ornament. Cool!

      1. I might have to vote for that since I find the whole, “Chick-Fil-A” thing so funny. I’d never seen one before visiting Dimity this summer. She mentions it in TLAM.

Seriously, though, Virginia is an area we are keen on visiting. We know a lot of mother runners are there.

    1. Excellent, Rene. The resort ZOOMA is held at looks lovely, and course will be similar to Falmouth one. We’re very excited for the trip (well, except the driving in Boston part….)
