Oh you beat me to it Nancy!!
Thought I would be the first to post, LOL!! It's almost NOON here, haha!!
Happy New Year to you and to Erica and Lisa!!
DH worked 31 years with the federal gov't (public health) ....... it was time for him to leave. He did planned for it. Retired at 57 yrs old. He still wanted to work part-time but with less hours, less stress. He loves it. I'm semi-retired, still do some consulting. I enjoy it. We are very blessed that we have the means to travel back and forth between AZ and MN. I would love to travel abroad to two places, New Zealand and the Andes......for ultra races. It's not getting any easier as the years go by. There are many spectacular places in this country to run though so it's all good.
DH has his dad he worries about. His other 4 siblings will take care of him only if they get paid for it. Sad. So thus, his work will keep him in MN, close to ND where is dad lives. He doesn't want to move to MN.
I'm here in MN to keep DH company, haha!
I have my mom and dad to think about as well. They live in NM. But unlike DH, my siblings are helpful and supportive. We make sure they are taken care of. We have our home in AZ that needs to be lived in. We don't rent it out as we can show up anytime. I prefer to live there though.
There are worst things in life to complain about. It's all about gratitude. This lifestyle is not at all difficult. We knew this was one of the options. I don't mind travelling back and forth. It allows me to explore places to camp, hike and run. And, we have friends/family who live in many areas of the country that I tend to travel through.
Hey, I'm 7 months 'older' than you Nancy! Had to laugh about finding out you could open a new window ....... how does that work? haha!
I'm excited to be in the 60+AG in March (my birthday).
We went to an early dinner. I didn't drink at all.
Came home. Then opened up a bottle of wine and had a couple ...... over a 6 hr time-frame..... into the New Year! Gosh, I'm such a lightweight now, that sucks! Yeah, it's not liking me either.
Sounds like you did enjoy the party after all. It's nice to have a family member to hang out with, one that you get along with. Sometimes, unexpected visits are the most delightful.
I love Ruffles potato chips ........ especially at aid stations. But we don't buy them.
DH went to bed around 10 pm ....... I stayed up, alternating between a movie and the NYE celebrations, and marveling at how all those people being crushed in Times Square can stay up, standing for all those hours!! And, the ball drops, then within 20 minutes, it's done! Just crazy.
I stayed up till almost 2 AM!! Friends and Family from the SW/west coast texted me in their time zone.
Needless to say, did not make it to the snowshoe hike this morning.
There are a few scheduled this month and in Feb. Couple of them are 'lantern lit' snowshoe hikes. I did that our first winter here in MN a few years ago. We do have them in northern AZ. It seemed new to them, here in MN, snowshoeing at night. I was the only one with a flashlight and a headlamp. I think they thought the 'lanterns' will be brightly lit on the snow-packed trails. NOT.
I had to lead a family through the woods to the bonfire. It was so dark. Kids thought it was 'cool' but they were being pulled on a sled, LOL!! It's fun when it's a full moon night.
Suppose to have a high of 28 degrees! WOW! But no sun today, blah!
Planning on getting a run in later, around the state park.
I gotta 'toughen' up if I'm thinking of running the Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard run, haha!
Of course, 28 degrees will be balmy in comparison.
DH did offer to drive me to race location, about 2.5 hrs from here. OMG! What am I thinking?!?
This year, turning 60 has me thinking more about my health ........ and hoping that I'll be just as good as I am in my 50s ...... I just need to run more, LOL!! 😀
