Forums: Connect with Another Mother Runner

A huge, sweaty welcome to the another mother runner forums, an exclusive but inclusive—that makes sense, right?—place to connect, chat, ask, analyze, and dream big with other runners. The beauty of this running forum is that, unlike our Facebook page, the status updates don’t float by in less than a day. Here they are, accessible whenever you need the 411.

Anything is game here: questions about training, nutrition, sports bras, leaking on the run, whatever. Two categories we think are pretty cool: a match.com for mother runners, where you can find a BRF (best running friend) and free gear swap, a place to find a home for your newish gear you never use. (The recipient pays only for shipping; thank you in advance for respecting this rule.)

So whatever you've got—IT band problems; stroller questions; a picture-perfect race; shoe issues—lay it on the collective us. If you'd like to nominate a category we forgot, email us at runmother [at] gmail [dot] com. We're all here to push each other across the finish line again and again.

That's weird! Can'f offer any help. I have YET to see that ......Is it when you try to paste a photo? or just to post?
My "solution" is to turn OFF and then back on .... (like the Mars robot) haha!
You didn't have any problem posting before, right?
If anything happens where we can't post anymore and we don't hear from one another, I will TEXT each of you. Erica has my cell.

Thurs: ran 6.2 on tm at gym.
Fri: 3 miles on TM at gym again. Sluggish but pushed through. Focus on incline.
Reason for two days at gym: DH's uncle was kept overnight 2 nights in hospital for severe chest pains. DH's favorite uncle. DH had to work on Fri and we decided to visit on Sat. which was my day for my run. Anyway, DH's family on dad's and mom's side have long history of heart disease. You remember DH's heart attack at 50 hrs old! So any heart problems with his family is serious shit!
After DH worked on Fri, we attended a Jazzfest at the local university. By the time we got home at 9:30 pm, it was 16 BELOW ZERO!! It got colder overnight and starting snow lightly.
Saturday: We each packed a bag in case we stay overnight. DH's aunt from Aberdeen SD was already on her way to Fargo on Fri. Not very often we visit with all of them at once.
Anyway, we left home early Saturday. Light snow and about 5 degrees.
Uncle was feeling better. A wonderful visit with DH's uncle, his wife and aunt. We stayed in a hotel. I packed my running stuff ........but forgot my running shoes!! S%%%%T!!
Too late and getting dark by the time we got home .... to go for a run.
But you know, family is more important in such cases.
No run tomorrow, have to travel to Duluth for the day.
Then another couple of days of artic temps and predicted snow!
I can't wait to to home to northern AZ.

Nancy: I think my post was fine. But maybe we should think of another option. I know all of you use FB. I'm okay with that. I don't do FB but I can text now and then to each of you. I think I have each of your cell #. What do you think?

Nancy- have you tried another computer? It may be something with the one you’re using. I’m so glad you had a great vacation!
JC- I hope DH’s uncle continues to feel better. What a change from MN to AZ weather! We have barely had any snow, it’s a faux winter. Mostly rain with some ice, dustings of snow. That stinks about forgetting your running shoes, but it happens.
I got into Boston with a local charity, so I have been trying to raise my minimum. Very challenging! I won’t do it again, but have major respect for people who do it regularly (Erica)!

Erica- how are you feeling? Are Elsa and Anna ready? 🙂

I did get to the gym a couple of times, used the elliptical as a low impact run, and used the leg weight machines. Today I wfh and used my rowing machine, also lifted weights for my arms and did some body weight exercises. . I have 15-17 miles on my schedule tomorrow so wanted to take it easy.
Have a great weekend!

Hi LIsa: I texted Erica and Nancy and you last Saturday ....... in my last post, I was asking if we need to just text instead due to the computer glitches lately. I'm not on FB but you all are keeping in touch through FB. Maybe we can text each other about races coming up and a brief post-race report. How do you feel about that?

Anyway, DH's uncle seems to be better, no news is good news, right? HIs family have a deep history of heart disease and all of his uncles have had heart attacks, bypass surgeries, and stent placement. They don't feel they need to change their lifestyle so still eating crap and no exercise.
I have put an old pair of running shoes in my car, still good but only for less than 6 miles. Love these shoes, but they discontinued years ago. Isn't that always the case?
I've heard of the challenge of raising money for local charity and I've considered doing one but I just don't have the time to devote to it. Erica is awesome!
Those are excellent cross-training methods, and keeping a nice long run schedule, WTG!! 😀
I finally got my double digit long run in last Saturday, 10.5, yippee!! 🙂
I did get in a short 5 miler outside but waited till temp hit the high of 22 degrees but felt like 10 with windchill. It was SUNNY so couldn't let that day go. 😉
Other than that, we are still dealing with BELOW zero temps so hitting the TM at the gym.
REST DAY today (Tues).
I think doing leg presses (on machine) is causing some 'dull ache/tenderness' on OUTSIDE of my right shin bone. Shin splints are usually on INSIDE of shin bone ....... and only change i've made in my exercise is adding the leg press machine.
Will stop that and see if it makes a difference. Never had problems with shin splints but heard alot about them from runners.
Like I need another issue to deal with ...... or rather my poor right leg to deal with. 🙁

Erica: I can't wait for the RR from Disney!! Good Luck to you and Emma, you two are so ready for it!! Have fun and enjoy the characters! Send pics.

Nancy: glad you are back safely from your cruise. And stay warm. Our temps have been BELOW zero degrees for days on end, then a couple of days in the 20s, bipolar winter!! ugh!!
Today and tomorrow will be another frigid artic days with possible light snow, always dreary days!
Where is spring?!?
Cleaning house is good exercise, right? I did that yesterday.
DH returned from visiting his dad in ND, spent most of it cleaning his house. FIL is oblivious to the mess, and probably too overwhelming so he avoids it. DH makes this trips to rid the house of the accumulated SH!$pile from over the years since MIL passed away. Not that that was all that great but at least she cleaned and organized the mess. Just sad.
Keep up the exercises, you'll get there! That's a lot of walking, WOW!!

Just popping in to say hi! Have been going to the gym this week, doing stretches and riding the recumbent bike. My knee is stiff by the end of the day from working but hopefully it'll get better. I like walking on the weekends outside.

We've had nice weather here, sorry for the frigid temps JC. Isn't that annoying you thought you were doing some good exercise, and now you have leg tenderness, sigh. Hopefully doing better.

Hope you had a great long run, Lisa. Good job on the workouts.

Have a great time and a great race, Erica and Emma!

Hi Nancy!
Nice you are getting gym workouts but that stiffness will probably subside as you continue...... especially after your LONG vacay!! 🙂 I like walking outside too if it's not butt-freezing nosehairs frosting over kind of day, haha! We've actually have had more SUNNY days but temps are SLOWLY getting 'warmer' ........ high teens, 20s, and 30s for this weekend, woohoo!!
So I got in 6.2 miles on Wed morning (3 on track, 3.2 on TM), 10 min elliptical and stretching on mat with some weights. Then drove to clinic and got my 2nd dose of the Shingrix vaccine.
DH wanted to eat out so we made it for happy hour :()
Around midnight, I woke up with chills to the bone and just horrible aches ALL OVER, OMG!!
Like the first dose, this Shingrix vaccine wiped me out AGAIN...... just as much, unbelievable!
Wasn't sure if this was going to happen but I made sure I got in a run in the morning and had NO plans for Thursday.
Thurs: in pajamas ALL DAY, sleeping on and off on couch or on bed, covered in blankets, feeling EVERY ache in muscle/joint, Good Grief!! Just whining all day to DH who can only hug me .......... and not looking forward to his second dose, LOL!
Fri: malaise all day again, injection site is so sore!! Better than yesterday. Took rest day. But I took a shower and changed into some regular clothes, haha!! Spent most of afternoon getting DH's computer connected to new speakers and new printer. He's hanging on to his "older version" of computer....... "still works," he says. Yes, but so much wiring!! ugh!
Sat (today): what a difference 2 days rest can do, ha!! Another glorious SUNNY day and above zero temps!! yippeee!! Tempting to run outside but I think I will go to gym instead and take advantage of the easy workout on elliptical, cycling, weights and a mile run in-between them......... I did that workout last week. Was nice.
