Forums: Connect with Another Mother Runner

A huge, sweaty welcome to the another mother runner forums, an exclusive but inclusive—that makes sense, right?—place to connect, chat, ask, analyze, and dream big with other runners. The beauty of this running forum is that, unlike our Facebook page, the status updates don’t float by in less than a day. Here they are, accessible whenever you need the 411.

Anything is game here: questions about training, nutrition, sports bras, leaking on the run, whatever. Two categories we think are pretty cool: a match.com for mother runners, where you can find a BRF (best running friend) and free gear swap, a place to find a home for your newish gear you never use. (The recipient pays only for shipping; thank you in advance for respecting this rule.)

So whatever you've got—IT band problems; stroller questions; a picture-perfect race; shoe issues—lay it on the collective us. If you'd like to nominate a category we forgot, email us at runmother [at] gmail [dot] com. We're all here to push each other across the finish line again and again.

Anyone running in the South Jersey area? I am about 15-20 minutes outside of Philadelphia. Haddon Heights, Haddonfield area? I could really use a running buddy...lost mine about a year ago b/c of scheduling conflicts and a new baby. Currently training for a full at the end of March. Lots of long runs ahead...

Bobbie, I live in Delran. Heard of the Pineland Striders? I run with them nearly every Sunday starting from Shawnee High School at 7am -- not sure what your LSR pace is, but we have speedsters, middle-of-the-packers, and steady-as-she-goes. Think you'd be up for something like that? Also, SJAC's home base is in Haddonfield -- also a good group! I'm not training for anything just now, but am hoping to PR a half in the spring (just have to decide which one). Which marathon are you training for?

Hi digitalsuze,
You are close to my office. I work out of a Lumberton office! I have not heard of Pineland Striders but have heard of SJAC. I'm probably a middle of the packer I suppose. Definitely not a speedster! Although I've been doing my long runs at a very "steady-as-she-goes pace as per my training plan.
Are you running with them on Sundays right now although you're not training for anything? Also, what is a typical Sunday run with the group. Even if I could get a few of my miles done with some company it would be nice. 🙂
I am training for the Ocean Drive Marathon at the shore. It's going to be a windy, blustery one for sure! Between my bad stomach, knee and now lower back pain I'm getting discouraged but I'm trying to keep, keepin' on!

I do usually run with them on Sundays even when I'm not training (although I probably will not do so this week). I believe there are 5-, 6-, 9-, 10-, 12-mile loops which see the most action. When people are training for marathons, there are 18-22 mile loops as well. There are several people in the group who are running OD, though I think most are sticking to the 10-miler (I've been kinda sorta thinking about that one, but think I will hold out for Broad Street. The Love Run HM is the same day as OD, so I'm also thinking about running that race.) It's a good group of people, very laid-back -- everyone kind of runs their own pace, so it's possible to wind up running on your own if you can't find a match. I usually run with people who are a little slower (10:15-10:30) than my usual easy pace because I figure slower is better and I'm there to have fun. We all hang out at Dunkin Donuts for our reward pastries after. 🙂

They also have weekday group runs, but I haven't been able to make it out for those.

The FB group is very active -- you can join and just lurk if that suits you. Are you on FB?
