Forums: Connect with Another Mother Runner

A huge, sweaty welcome to the another mother runner forums, an exclusive but inclusive—that makes sense, right?—place to connect, chat, ask, analyze, and dream big with other runners. The beauty of this running forum is that, unlike our Facebook page, the status updates don’t float by in less than a day. Here they are, accessible whenever you need the 411.

Anything is game here: questions about training, nutrition, sports bras, leaking on the run, whatever. Two categories we think are pretty cool: a for mother runners, where you can find a BRF (best running friend) and free gear swap, a place to find a home for your newish gear you never use. (The recipient pays only for shipping; thank you in advance for respecting this rule.)

So whatever you've got—IT band problems; stroller questions; a picture-perfect race; shoe issues—lay it on the collective us. If you'd like to nominate a category we forgot, email us at runmother [at] gmail [dot] com. We're all here to push each other across the finish line again and again.

Looking ahead to summer and need to find some new shorts. Trouble is finding casual shorts (not running shorts) that fit on my ample runner thighs. Any advice on brands or where to look would be welcomed! Thank you.

I am interested in this too. I have all but given up shorts in favor of skorts. But I can't quite get my head around a skort with hiking shoes and I am not fond of wearing anything else (running shoes excepted) on my feet.

So oddly enough, I wear shorts when I run but have pretty much decided that casual shorts look awful on me (though I don't think it has anything to do with running). I live in a very hot climate and my casual go to is now the cotton jersey skirt (most hit just above or an inch or two above the knee). Places like Patagonia, Athleta, and Title Nine make/carry them in a ton of cute prints. I think they are much more flattering than shorts, and much more comfortable. Some even have pockets. I have this really cool hemp one from Patagonia that is almost nylon-like and has pockets, is fuschia and very cute. I wear them with whatever shoes I want - slides or sandals, or retired running shoes. I suppose I'm just not fashion conscious enough to care. It helps that my running shoes are low profile Brooks in bright colors.
