Putting a 2015 race on your calendar can help you get through the coming days of crazy. (Trust us!)

As we hurtle toward Thanksgiving and the gift-giving season beyond that, with a flurry of cranberries, stuffing, tinsel, candles, and ribbon flying all around us, we encourage you to lift your head--even if just briefly--to start planning your 2015 race calendar. Getting something set on your running calendar, like a race, gives you a goal to shoot for--something both to look forward to (maybe a girlfriend's weekend away, or a fun roadtrip with the family) as well as a challenge to keep your motivation percolating in the cold, dark weeks ahead.

While we love a variety of race distances, we think a half-marathon is as close to perfect as it gets. The race distance is long enough to warrant several months of dedicated training, yet not so long that it consumes you (and all your energy). The training runs give you plenty of time to dive into dishy or candid conversations with your best running friend (or dedicated, weekly podcast-listening sessions if you run solo--we are currently loving Startup and Serial). Race day itself is challenging, eye-opening, and rewarding, yet doesn't leave you gimpy for days and days afterward. And, let's not forget: You get to toss around the word "marathon" in conversation or your holiday newsletter!

We hope this has your 13.1 juices flowing because we have exciting news: Three of our training plans are now available on TrainingPeaks, a website and phone app that allows you to plan your training, track your workouts, and measure your progress. Via TrainingPeaks, you can buy one of our training plans (we currently have three half-marathon plans there--we are adding more in the weeks to come). Then, each day, you get an email detailing your workout that day and the following day. Once you complete your run (or cross-training segment), you  log your time or miles on TrainingPeaks (either via your GPS or manually). And depending on how tech-y you want to get, you can slice and dice your workouts countless ways. (Dimity used TP for her Ironman training, and I used it for Victoria Marathon, and we only scratched the surface of dissecting data.)

Suffice it to say: TrainingPeaks is super-nifty, and we're thrilled to have our plans for sale on the site. The three currently on TP are our Run/Walk Half-Marathon Plan; Half-Marathon: Finish It Plan; and Half-Marathon: Own It Plan. Later this week, we're adding two special plans to get gals ready for runDisney Princess Half-Marathon. As I said, we'll be adding more plans in the next few weeks, including our marathon plans. Take a look, and we hope you like what you see. We'd appreciate it if you'd spread the word to your running pals, too. Thanks!

  1. Thanks so much for mentioning Serial. I just started listening to it, and have been sucked in. It helps to have something else to listen to after the AMR podcast.
