At the end of the week, we typically have a pile of stuff sitting on our virtual counter tops. But this pile is much better than the Amex bill, the reminder for your teeth cleaning, a bunch of random coupons, and the recipe you pulled out of Cooking Light four months ago, but refuse to throw away because you will make it one of these days.
Which is a long way of saying Friday Files will pop up occasionally.
1.In case you missed the announcement on Facebook, we started our own radio program this week: another mother runner radio! You can find the shows on this link here as well as on iTunes and and through the Stitcher Radio app. Oh, and it's right below this paragraph too. Let us know what you think; this is an inaugural effort and would love your feedback.
2. Do you know a mom, volunteer, or teacher who inspires others to live a healthy life? Are they so great you want to give them a shot at spending 3 days and 4 nights at the Red Mountain Resort in Ivins, Utah? Spry magazine (love their tagline: celebrating the vitality in all of us) is hosting the Inspiration Awards. Not only will the winners in each of those categories get hiked, massaged, and fed in the way only a resort can, they'll also be featured in the December 2011 issue of the magazine. Fire up your keyboards and enter here. (And Spry isn't forgetting you: The people who nominate the winners get a $100 Amex gift card. Take that, credit card bill!)
3. Check your calendar: Are you free August 18-21? Does your soul need a little nature, your feet need a little trail running? It's not too late to join us at the Run Wild Retreat. We've got a great group going so far (and you can save 10% when you sign up with a friend). C'mon: your kids go to camp; why shouldn't you?
4. If Colorado trail camp is out of the question, another option is the Race & Relax retreat, a women's retreat hosted by Lorraine at Run Wifey Run in conjunction with the Savannah Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. The premise: you sign up, get a training plan, support the other women virtually as you all train, meet up with them to rock 'n' roll, network, be social medialites, and, of course, relax. Sounds pretty good to me.
5. Finally, the two winners of the Merrell Oyster giveaway--the choice of a $100 Merrell gift certificate or two entries to the adventure-heavy Oyster race--and what they did lately that was courageous:
Kellie: I started to run with a running partner. For years I have been afraid to commit to running with someone because I was so scared I wasn’t good enough or that I couldn’t keep up. The whole idea just freaked me out! But thanks to my dear partner, I now love running LONG runs even more! It really is like social hour and a free therapy session all wrapped into one! I don’t regret much in life, but I do regret doubting myself and not doing this sooner
Lindsey: One of my 5 y/o twins wanted to sign up for soccer, but was chickening out. A few people at the sign ups talked me into being an asst. coach…depsite admitting I don’t even know what “off sides” means. They said it didn’t matter at that age, and I realized, if she was going out of her comfort zone, I could, too. We’ll do it together!
Loved reading all your comments from so many brave and bada** women. Kelli and Lindsey: e-mail us at runmother at gmail dot com to claim your prize!
