We don't kid ourselves: We know we're not Oprah. (And not just because we've run faster marathons than she has!) But borrowing a page from O's playbook, we created the Another Mother Runner Running and Reading Club on our podcast.
Every few months, we pick a new book related to running. In this running book group, we suggest you read the book, giving you at least several weeks to finish it. (And, no, you don't have to read it while running on a treadmill--you can sit or even recline while reading!) Then we ask you to post questions for the author on our Facebook page. When we host the writer on our podcast, we ask her or him your questions.
So far we've hosted Rachel Toor, an ultrarunner whose debut YA novel is called On the Road to Find out. It is the tale of a teenage girl who is a burgeoning runner making her way through the college-admission gauntlet. Here's the podcast with Rachel. It takes a surprising leap when we start talking about rats!
Next up is Ted Spiker, a father runner and Ironman finisher who has had his fair share of ups and downs with weight. His insightful, engaging non-fiction book, Down Size: 12 Truths for Turning Pants-Splitting Frustration into Pants-Fitting Success, was our second pick for the book club. Ted shared insightful advice, as well as a few tales involving Dairy Queen Blizzards.
