Joy to the Run

December 1-31, 2024

BEST FOR: Anybody and everybody
WHAT: A community-wide running program to keep you moving through the time of the year when daylight is in short supply and chaos rings like jingle bells.
LENGTH: The 31 days of December

Welcome to Joy to the Run, an Another Mother Runner Holiday Challenge!

We are so excited to share this (joyful yet hectic) month of December with you. As you likely know from personal experience, the busier your schedule and longer your to-do list gets, the more important it is for you to take time to move.

As you also likely know from personal experience, exercise gives us a clear path to a more balanced mind, a more patient perspective, and a chance to feel powerful and present.

Which is why we’re making this holiday running challenge free to everybody. Momentum, motivation, and inspiration thrive in camaraderie, and we want to make this joyous, sweaty December circle as wide and inclusive as possible.

In the spirit of giving, we are including the opportunity to pay it forward with a donation to Still I Run, an organization that aims to assist the one in five Americans who experience a mental health condition in a given year.

Still I Run builds and nurtures a community of individuals dedicated to running for their mental health, encouraging everyone to take time out of their busy day to run or move for mental well-being. They work to promote the benefits of running, or any physical activity, for mental health, provide resources to educate and inspire, and dismantle the stigma surrounding mental illness.

We welcome donations of any size to reach our goal of $4,000. Another Mother Runner will donate all proceeds, minus processing fees, to Still I Run.

The Details

Joy to the Run itself is simple: We’re asking for at least 20 minutes of movement most days in December. That’s it—we know the short, chilly days of December are already full of choir concerts, family commitments, and frosted chaos.

Running is, of course, one of the most efficient ways to squeeze in a workout, but it’s far from the only way. If you’re a runner, you can run, you can walk, you can do a run/walk combo. If running isn’t your thing, you can cycle, you can swim, you can hit the yoga mat, you can lift weights. Consider that consistent movement a gift to yourself.

When you join, you’ll receive a detailed PDF, which includes basic guidelines, as well as 31 days of workouts. We offer up three weekly run, run/walk, walk, or cardio XT workouts, two strength days—with easy-to-follow strength moves—and a soothing recovery yoga session. We’ll also have a few live strength workouts you can join virtually during Zoom if it works for your schedule; we’ll record them and distribute in case you can’t make it.

Finally, we’ll have some collective fa la la fun on our private Facebook page with festive contests. Nothing too complicated, of course: just enough to get you through December feeling calm and strong.

QUESTIONS + ANSWERS

Joy to the Run is for everybody: all paces, levels, shapes, sizes of runners will enjoy it. If you’re not a runner, you can walk. If you prefer to cycle, swim, elliptical, downward dog, Rollerblade, or squat instead of run, that works too.

Really, all we’re looking for is 20 minutes of movement most days of the month in December. If you can move, you’re in the right place.

We’ll use weights for some of the strength routines, but if you don’t have them, all good! We’ll suggest some DIY weight solutions.

If you opt to buy a Joy to the Run merchandise, shipping is free for domestic orders.

International shipping is not currently available, but we’d still love to have you participate! Just email us at tlamclub@anothermotherrunner.com, and we will help you bypass the shipping at checkout.

We will have a private Facebook page, and we encourage you to post your daily workouts. Not only do we love seeing them, but you will likely inspire your joyous teammates to get moving if they haven’t yet today.

In addition, your PDF will have check-‘er-off boxes for every date, so you can have that satisfying feeling of completion. We’ll also offer up an accountability tracker you can use for social media, if you’re so inclined.
