Run for Your Mother: List of Mother’s Day Races

Mother’s Day is less than two weeks away. While your family is planning something special for you (we hope!), why not plan something special for yourself? Take some time that weekend to get your sweat on.

We’re starting a list of Mother’s Day weekend races that have some connection to moms, women-and-children-centric charities, and/or women-only fields. Add the one you’re planning to run in the comments so that other mother runners can lace up and join in!

Whatley, Massachusetts: The Western Mass Mother’s Day Half Marathon. Has 9 mile option and a 4-hour time limit so that walkers can finish with runners.

Saratoga Springs, New York: Mother Lovin’ 5K, with proceeds going to Kelly’s Angels, which brings smiles to the faces of children who’ve lost a family member to cancer.

Mt. Sterling, Ohio: Brokebabe’s Marathon Distance Challenge. This women only race is a 6.5 mile trail loop. You don’t need to do the full 26.2 but you can, if you’d like.

Reston, Virginia: Mother’s Day 4-miler, with funds going to Devotion to Children.

Paducah, Kentucky: Paduca Iron Mom, with proceeds going to the Family Service Society.

Davie, Florida: Mother’s Day 5K. A Mother’s Day run through Ft. Lauderdale.

There are decorated port-potties in KC....

Overland Park, Kansas: The KC Express Mother’s Day 5K. Sponsored by a women’s running and walking club.

St. Paul, Minnesota: Run Like a Mother 5K, which is a kick-off to Moms on the Run’s spring season.

Denver, Colorado: Mother’s Day 5K. Not only is childcare available during the race, race entry also covers brunch afterwards.

Bozeman, Montana: HAVEN 5K, with funds going to HAVEN, a shelter for those who’ve experienced domestic violence.

Newport, Oregon: Mother’s Day Run. Has both a “Mum and I” category and a "Three Generations of Women" category.

Los Gatos, California: 9th Annual Jenny’s Light 5k/10k, with funds going to Jenny’s Light, whose mission is to improve and save lives by increasing awareness of perinatal mood disorders.

St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada: The Chocolate Race. Finishers get a medal and, of course, chocolate.

Australia (11 different cities): Mother’s Day Classic, with funds going to Breast Cancer research.

Let us know where you’ll be running in the comments...

  1. The Molly Datillo Memorial 5K, Madison Indiana. Molly was a local high-schooler who disappeared suddenly several years ago. Her family started the race as a fundraiser which now provides scholarship money for students in the local county school system.

  2. Considering running the Priest Lake Marathon in Idaho…it would be my second in less than two weeks, and I’d officially become a Marathon Maniac 🙂

  3. Women’s right to run 19K in Seneca Falls NY. Celebrating women’s movement -19th amendment. Official partner event for Katherine Switzer’s 261 Fearless.

  4. Running my first Mothers Day Classic and raising money for breast cancer research. Sydney Australia! Can’t wait!

  5. My son is coming home for Mother’s day so no race for me, just a morning run.
Molly Clark, I ran The Right to Run last year. Nice race and Kathrine Switzer was there. There is a short trail section.

  6. I’ll be running the Maine Coast Marathon along the coast of southern Maine. Hoping to earn a BQ but if not I’ll settle for a Mather’s Day nap after!

  7. I’ll be running the Mother Lovin’ 5K in Saratoga Springs, NY, with my daughter and granddaughter. We started this tradition in 2014 and look forward to it every year. Thanks for including it in your list.

  8. I will be running the Snohomish Women’s Run 10K in Everett, WA on Mother’s Day for the third year in a row.

  9. Sporting Life 10K for Camp Oochigeas all proceeds from the race go to support for children with Cancer and the camp oochigeas programs. It’s an amazing mother’s day run – typically run by many women in Toronto, ON. Canada. It’s a fun and well attended race every year!! It’s been mother’s day tradition for myself and BRF for about 10 years.

  10. Not running but riding my bicycle. Annual Bike 101 Lakes with family and friends. I get to go back home and ride with my BRF (who also is my best riding friend)

  11. I’m running a guaranteed PR in the Women’s Right to Run 19K in Seneca Falls, NY on May 13. (Guaranteed PR because of the unique distance.) Proceeds benefit the renovation of the Women’s Hall of Fame. Still plenty of spots open if you’re in NY State!

  12. My home town of Middletown OH hosts a Mother’s Day 5K at the local cemetery/arboretum. All proceeds benefit Hospice of Middletown. The course is completely flat. Its where I set my 5K PR of 22:41. Memorial signs line the course honoring loved ones. Its a nice local race.

  13. I’ll be running the St. Louis Girls in the Run 5k with my middle child on Saturday and thinking about the Sst. Louis Mothers Day 5k that Sunday with all three of my kids.
