Sorry to be a broken record, but I'm leading into another HDG winner post by talking about my weekend long run: I can't help it, I have marathon training on the brain. If you're reading this post in the a.m., right now I'm running 17 miles with, gulp, 12 miles at race pace. This is the third time I've followed the Marathon: Own It plan from Train Like a Mother: How to Get Across Any Finish Line - and Not Lose Your Family, Job, or Sanity so I speak from experience when I admit it's the hardest workout in the entire cycle. (For me, anyhow.) I know my partner-in-training-crime, Molly, is dreading it because she 'fessed up to that during our easy 7-miler on Thursday morning.
As I type on Friday night, with a nice hey-it's-carbs beer buzz, I am feeling mixed emotions about the run. I'm excited for it because it's on a paved trail I haven't run in years (Springwater Corridor, to all you Portlanders), yet fretting slightly. I'm worried I won't be able to maintain the 9:10-9:30 pace we're vowing to run (we want to average 9:10-9:20s, but we're going to be okay if it drops to 9:30) because I nailed, absolutely nailed, race pace for 10 miles during a 16-mile run a few weeks ago. By some twisted variation of Murphy's Law for Runners, I figure since I did so well in that training run, certainly I'll flub this one. (If I were being rationale, I'd realize succeeding at that run actually boosts my chances of doing well in this weekend's run....)
Enough of my navel-gazing, let's get down to exciting stuff: announcing the winner of the SO-weet Smith Pivlock V90 shades. I'd say putting on a pair of these sleek beauties would pretty much guarantee nailing whatever pace the winner sets out to run. And the woman who will be wearing them (and her race personality) is:
Anna: "I wear sunglasses whenever i can because I’m usually the hot mess while I run."
Anna, to claim your Smith Optics, please send your full name, mailing address, and phone number to runmother [at] gmail [dot] com. Here's to strong, successful weekend workouts for the rest of us!
