Ever since Dimity did the 21-mile Grand Traverse hike with three close friends in 2022, she’s been dreaming of taking a bigger AMR group to this scenic, challenging event on the Superior Hiking Trail.

Three (short) years later, and her dreams are now reality—and we can’t wait to have you join us!

How it works: Whether you want to take on the 10-mile hike or you’re up for a 27-mile trail run—or want to do something in between—we will virtually train together, then gather Team AMR in person for the Grand Traverse in Duluth, MN on October 4.

Over the course of your training, we’ll get you ready by focusing on the endurance and strength you’ll need for the length and locomotion (trail running or hiking) you choose. In addition, we’ll make sure you practice your trail hydration and fueling plenty of times so that when the October 4 rolls around, all you have to concentrate on is soaking up the trail, connecting with your teammates, and taking in your calories.

Dimity could rave about pretty much any hike, but the Superior Hiking Trail in early October, surrounded by autumn leaves and like-minded teammates? You’ll never forget it. She certainly hasn’t.

Training with virtual partners is like having a built-in hype squad that never cancels on you! Whether you’re swapping workout stats on our private Facebook page, meeting up for training sessions IRL, engaging in trail tips, or (virtually) sweating it out alongside your teammates adds an extra layer of fun and commitment.

As you train for the Grand Traverse, Coaches Dimity + Christy will help you tackle the trails and answer your individual questions.

Although Coaches Christy + Dimity will collaborate to make sure you’re dialed in for race day, Coach Christy, an accomplished trail runner and personal trainer, will focus on the trail running programs, while Coach Dimity will oversee the hiking programs. Every week, there will be an Ask the Coach column on Facebook to answer any questions that have popped up for you, and both of them will be present on team meetings. (If you’re not on Facebook, you can email any question at any point and they’ll help you out!)

No. You will still need to register for the Grand Traverse and your distance of choice on your own, but we will provide a code for 15% off your registration fee.

The hiking workouts utilize a stair machine or stadium/set of stairs.

You definitely need to have access to either a long set of stairs, a stadium, or a Stepmill (the climbing machine where you pick up your feet with each step).

A treadmill is also a great tool to have for winter training, if you’re in a colder climate.

Ideally, both trail runners and hikers have access to a trail for weekend workouts, but it’s more important for trail runners, especially those doing the three longer distances.

We will use weights in some of the strength workouts; a set of dumbbells between 5-20 pounds, depending on your fitness, will come in handy, as will a looped resistance band.

In the program, we provide a list of everything you might need on the trail. You’ll definitely want to have a pack with a hydration bladder and likely hiking poles. You can also visit the event page for their suggestions.

Yes. We have reserved a block of rooms at a hotel in Duluth, and we’ll share that information by March 10.

Yes. We have reserved a room at our centrally-located hotel and we’ll have a fun team meeting there on Friday afternoon at 4:30 pm. You’ll provide your own dinner, and AMR will provide non-alcoholic drinks, dessert, and a table full of GORP-making supplies.

Within a few weeks of registration, every participant in a Train Like a Mother program receives a stocked swag package with some of our favorite training essentials. Domestic shipping is now FREE for all merchandise and training swag packages.

International shipping is not currently available but we invite you to participate in any of our online programs! Just email us at tlamclub@anothermotherrunner.com and we will help you bypass the shipping at checkout.

We definitely want this to work into your life and your active lifestyle. You can email us within 2 weeks of starting the program and we will set you up with another plan or a partial credit for an upcoming challenge. You will need to work with the Grand Traverse to change your registration details.

We will not be able to issue a straight-up refund.

With a smart training plan, doable strength training, and advice on foam rolling and other self-care, we’re going to do our best to keep you injury-free. That said, if you have an injury or illness that totally slays your training, let us know within two weeks. We’ll work with you to get you a partial credit for an upcoming program.
