*NOTE: The "Register Here" button will take you to the Rancho la Puerta site, which will direct you to fill out a form under the accommodations and rates tab. Our pal Donna (RLP representative extraordinaire) will then call you within 24 hours to complete your registration. If the site asks for a password, it is rancho. Once you have filled out your form, you are guaranteed a spot!
Get ready to renew your mind, body, and spirit at AMR's first-ever international retreat at Rancho La Puerta! Dimity fell in love with her adventure at this world-class resort & spa on a recent trip there, so she decided to invite 25 of her closest friends (including SBS!) to an AMR-themed weekend in amazing Baja, Mexico. This Retreat will be unlike any other we have ever hosted, so mark your calendars for February 2 - 6, 2019, and keep reading to learn all about this Saturday-to-Wednesday getaway you won't want to miss! Two thrilling additions to the line-up:
--Ellie Kempton, MSN, RD, the nutrition genius who developed our Simply Nourished Like a Mother program, will give an optional nutrition talk daily as well as give several healthy-goodness demos. Like Dimity + Sarah, Ellie will take part in the RLP activities and meals with Retreat attendees. (Watch out: Ellie is a woman-on-a-mission in cycling classes!)
-Dean Karnazes, famed ultramarathoner and multi-time author, will join Retreaters on a run and give an exclusive inspiring talk, open to Retreat attendees only. (Imagine it: running with Ultramarathon Man!!)
The all-inclusive, per-person prices for the Rancho la Puerta Retreat are the following:
(And honestly guys, if you want to hit a few or zero classes per day, opting to read a book in one of the many hammocks on the property, DO IT! This weekend is for you to refresh, rejuvenate, and relax with friends old and new.)
We could go on and on, but here’s the Twitter-length version: Our goal is for you to leave the AMR Retreat feeling refreshed, inspired, informed, connected, supported, and fired up to continue on the wellness path.
Some Q+A's to break down the details into bite-size pieces.
When is the Retreat? February 2 to February 6, 2019. (Please note: Retreat starts on a SATURDAY and ends on WEDNESDAY)
Where is it? At Rancho La Puerta, one of the world's leading destinations for change and renewal. The climate is near-perfect: In the winter, it's typically warm and dry, with some showers and chilly nights. Typically mid-60s (Farenheit) by day and drop down to 40 at night. Rancho La Puerta is located just about 25 miles “as the crow flies” from the Pacific Ocean (near San Diego, California) at an elevation of 1,700 feet. You might want to bring light gloves and a beanie for a morning hike or run.
What does the schedule look like? Guess what? IT IS COMPLETELY UP TO YOU. Every day there are 50 (fifty!!) different classes to choose from: nutrition, mindfulness, running, cooking, hiking, yoga, swimming, hammocking (yes! that is a thing)...we could go on and on. Here is a sample schedule to give you a feel for what is on tap. We will be organizing some classes + fitness endeavors just for AMR Retreaters (including Ellie Kempton's nutrition talks, a run + talk with Dean Karnazes), but at the end of the day, we want this to be a rejuvenating, relaxing experience for you. And we'll be joining you in classes (and hammocking!).
Joining Sarah + Dimity are:
Ellie Kempton, MSN, RD, the nutrition genius who developed our Simply Nourished Like a Mother program. Ellie is a Denver-based Registered Dietician Nutritionist with a master’s degree in Functional Nutrition. Mother to a fur baby (a Rhodesian ridgeback), Ellie is an avid runner, cyclist, and swimmer in search of the best competitive outlet. Ellie will lead a nutrition talk daily plus do a few foodie demos for us.
Dean Karnazes is an ultrarunner extraordinaire and the author of the bestselling Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner. (Our favorite anecdote: ordering--and eating!!--a pizza while on a middle-of-the-night run.) Dean was a guest on the AMR Podcast talking about his second book, Road to Sparta, as well as his jaw-dropping 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days accomplishment. Retreaters will get to go on an exclusive run with Dean as well as be the only guests at a talk he gives at the Ranch.
I'm a new runner. Will I fit in? Absolutely: You'll leave with a bunch of BRFs from around the country (and possibly the globe) who will virtually cheer you on through your upcoming miles and races!
Do I have to be a mother to be a part of the Retreat? Not at all (and thanks for asking!): All women runners are welcome. Nothing mother-specific about the Retreat (except for the name of our brand!).
Should I attend solo? Um, do we sweat when we run? Yes, yes, yes, attend solo! We promise, you'll have an army of running buddies within the first mile—or actually, the first hours. At previous Retreats, the majority of gals attended solo--but they weren't alone. If you attend solo but want to split cost of an RLP casita, the Retreat's private Facebook page can help you find a roomie. Loads of previous Retreat attendees have gone this route--and come away with a new friend.
And if I attend with just me, myself, and I, can I get a roommate? Yes: Hold off on booking a room. Within 48 hours of registering for Retreat, you'll get invited to private Facebook group for Retreat. You can then post that you are looking for a roomie; you should be able to find one pretty easily. Once you find a roomie, book a casita directly with Rancho La Puerta. There are single, double, and triple casitas.
What if I want to come with my BRF? We've got you covered, and the resort has options available for singles, doubles, + triples.
Is there a limit on how many gals can attend? Yes, we want to ensure everyone has a memorable, meaningful experience, so we are limiting the Rancho La Puerta Retreat to 25 women.
What's included in the packages? EVERYTHING. Your room; all meals (3 healthy squares a day + twice/day snacks: SCORE!); all hikes, presentations, runs, classes (50+ daily); one Ranch Classic Massage, and round-trip shuttle from the San Diego Airport. Airfare is not provided, and neither are additional spa services (e.g. facial, herbal wraps, reflexology, etc.).
Will there be swag? In the words of Minnesota-bred Dimity: You betcha! We want to keep some details secret, but you’ll definitely be swagged many of our favorites, including Nuun Hydration; GU Energy Gels, Chews, and Stroopwafels; Balega socks; and much more. Given the posh nature of this Retreat, you can expect some swanky surprises, too!
Just so I’m clear: I will be registering for the Retreat directly through Rancho La Puerta. Yes, ma'am! Our representative at RLP is a pro, so she's handling the bookings. Click on the link above, where you will be directed to the RLP site with further instructions.
What time should I arrive in San Diego on Saturday and then, sniff, sniff, depart on Wednesday? ASAP! You can arrive as early as you like on Saturday to get a jump on all the activities (or to claim your poolside lounge chair or, say it with us, hammock!). Airport shuttles run on Saturday at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 12:15 p.m., and 2:45 p.m. We will have a welcome class (activity TBD) late Saturday afternoon. This Retreat is much more customizable than our "traditional" ones so you decide when to arrive on Saturday and when to depart on Wednesday, but Dimity and Sarah will be optimizing how much time they spend there! (NOTE: Team AMR will be heading home on Wednesday, February 6, but you can stay longer with pro-rated deal for remainder of week. Totally your choice, but just wanted to mention that option.)
Do I need to win the lottery to pay for this - it looks so posh! At the time of registration, a non-refundable payment of $500 is due, with the remainder due within 60 days of registering (giving you time to save up!).
