Other than exercise, Dimity and Sarah don’t have many hobbies, but they are both avid readers. In this podcast, they share some of their favorite sports-related books, ranging from the incredibly inspiring (Marathon Woman: Running the Race to Revolutionize Women’s Sports by Kathrine Switzer; Swimming to Antarctica: Tales of a Long-Distance Swimmerby Lynne Cox; and Devoted: The Story of a Father’s Love for His Son by Dick Hoyt and Don Yaeger) to the dishy and gripping (The Secret Race: Inside the Hidden World of the Tour de France by Tyler Hamilton and Daniel Coyle and Iron War: Dave Scott, Mark Allen, and the Greatest Race Ever Run by Matt Fitzgerald), as well as a new page-turner of a novel (Flat Water Tuesday: A Novel by Ron Irwin). All perfect poolside companions while kids are in swim lessons. And Sarah would like to point out that the vocab word of the week, “tousled,” is pronounced her way by many reputable sites.

Thanks for these! Was just wishing I had some recommendations for books such as these to download for listening to on long runs (after the podcast, of course!). Will refer to this when my next audible.com credit arrives in 21 days :)
I look forward to listening to this. I loved Iron War–I read it last year and listened to the audio recently. (The reader had an odd voice, though, which took a bit to get used to!) Of course I read Marathon Woman years ago….hey, I wonder if it’s on audio?
You’ve gotta read Pre: The Story of America’s Greatest Running Legend, Steve Prefontaine by Tom Jordan!
Great book, amazing talent, untimely death. The things he could have done…
I’m currently reading “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown. Excellent so far. Is about nine americans quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics for rowing. Two other excellent reads are “Unbroken” by Laura Hildenbrand and “A Life Without Limits: A World Champion’s Journey” by Chrissie Wellington.
Recently read “Gold” by Chris Cleave. Great summertime novel about two lifelong friends and their rivalry to win gold in track cycling at the Olympics.
