A) Make yourself feel nauseous for over a week after you hit “submit” button.
B) Wonder if you’re just a 40-year-old working mother of two disguised as a crazy lady with an endurance obsession. (Or maybe the two aren’t all that different.)
C) Follow a dream you’ve had for so long, you can’t remember when you didn’t have it.
D) Give yourself *plenty* of material to write about for the next year, plus many entries after that.
E) All of the above.
I choose E.
Ironman Couer d’Alene–I’m gonna have to learn how to spell that off the top of my head–I’m coming for you. After I put in about a gazillion miles worth of training.
That is awesome! You’ll finish the race and you’ll be so proud of yourself. I couldn’t swim one length of the pool and I has never run a marathon when I signed up for an ironman in 2009. I learned how to swim (I’m slow) and finished the race in 14:06! With my longest run being only 26k (not sure what that is in miles).
I wish you the best if luck with your training and I look forward to following your progress over the next 10 months :)
Ironmandrea :)
(I love how I can incorporate ironman and Andrea together)
Love this post!!! So pumped for you!!! Dimity, you really are a BAMT!!! My 3 brothers will be doing the NYC IM in August. It’ll be #7 for C, #2 for A and #1 for Baby Whip. Our family has gone to Lake Placid, Germany for the Roth Challenge- same distance as IM, Canada, Switzerland, back to Lake Placid, France and now NYC. We cheer all day long for the Ironathletes and I’m looking forward to cheering you on during your training for this monumental and very rewarding challenge!!! Team Whipple sends you a big Giddy up!!!
That is awesome :)
Holy wow! Looking forward to hearing all about your triumphs along the way!
Hi There! Fourty three year old mother of three moving to Boulder in three weeks, just started a new job, and signed up for Ironman Lake Tahoe for Sept. 2013. Did the Rev 3 Cdar Point last and loved it, but right now a full still seems like crazytown! Maybe I’ll see you out there on one our long runs and even loooonger bike rides : )
Wow! Can’t wait to read all the highs and lows of this journey. I second the BAMT! Go, Dimity!
Congrats!!! It’s going to be amazing following your journey to the finish line.
Oh my goodness!! That is awesome! When that pesky internal voice got too loud for me to ignore I did my first marathon (last year). You captured perfectly how I felt after I signed up in just a few sentences. Can’t wait to hear all about it!
Wow! Wow! Wow! This is amazing. Following you might make me finally sign up for a sprint tri. You are going to do awesome. I absolutely can’t wait to follow your training.
Wow Dimity! That’s awesome! Cannot wait to hear more!
Wow indeed – truly badass! I’ve always thought an Ironman tattoo would be the only one I would be tempted to get.
Wow, Dimity, that is so awesome! I was just thinking about you on my run this morning when I had to take a walk break. I was thinking “Dimity says she is not a Type-A runner, so it’s okay that you are walking (even though Sarah hardly ever takes walk breaks)” — but I don’t know if I can think that anymore since you are going to be killing it in an Ironman! Ha! Good luck and stay healthy in your training!!!
Yeah that would be enough to make me nauseus! However…it is very badass of you!! Awesome!!
That is beyond awesome Dimity! Way to go! I’m sure you’re a bundle of nerves right now, but you’ll do great. I can’t wait to cheer you on from cyberspace!
Congrats, Dimity! Very exciting.
Way to go Dimity! You have a very proud tribe behind you that will be cheering, encouraging, and sweating with you (in one way or another) the entire way. Butterflies are good. They mean you’re keeping life exciting. Yahoo!!
Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!! This is going to be a super adventure!
Awesome!
Awesome!! I can’t wait to follow your progress, this is a bucket list item for me for sure!!!
I am in such “awe” of you! Whenever I see your posts, I think of the dream I had where I am running and you run past me and we both “head nod” and wave and you say “hello mother runner”. You and Sarah are both such amazing combinations of ordinary and extradinary. I hope that makes sense. Basically, I relate to you as “just another mom” and I’m inspired by you in all you do and share with “us”…. Thank You.
YOU ROCK, LADY!!! :-)
AWESOME! Purely awesome! Can’t wait to read about your training AND the race. I know you’re going to kick some ironman asphalt!!!!
That is awesome!! Looking forward to reading all about your journey to Iron(wo)man!!
I just signed up for my first sprint triathlon yesterday with a future goal of Ironman in a year or so. Congrats and good luck! I love Coeur d’Alene, it’s so beautiful, you are going to enjoy it so much!
Can’t wait to follow along as you make your dream a reality. Maybe next you can write a training plan for a mother runner doing an ironman!
Hooray for you!! I can not wait for your stories of trial and triumph!
WOW!!! SO awesome and inspiring!! I will totally come cheer you on, it’s a beautiful part of the country up here:) Congrats on a huge commitment and major life goal to meet!
WOW WOW WOW!!! I was just thinking about the Ironman distances (in 3 frickin’ sports!) and wondered if that would be harder than a 100 miler. And you go and hit that submit button. I have butterflies for you just thinking about that submit button. *Bows in the “I’m not worthy” gesture* I’m so stoked for you. Rock on, woman!
That is awesome! Just moved to NY away from Spokane- about a half hour from CDA- spent a lot of time there- it is beautiful! You will love it there. Can’t wait to hear about your journey- you will be phenomenal! Such an inspiration!
Yay!! What a GREAT challenge!! Can’t wait to hear (read) more!!
That is fantastic! You are so bold and brave! Couer d’Alene is gorgeous and you will have a great race, I just know it! I’m looking forward to reading all about your training adventures.
That’s big! Looking forward to reading all about it, as an Ironman is on the bucket list.
Oh WOW! That’s awesome! Good for you for going after it!! I’m SO looking forward to reading about your training and journey. You always keep it real – which is so inspiring and encouraging for the rest of us!! Good luck!!
AWESOME!!!! My hubby did a HIM in June and he had the whole butterfly thing going on for weeks. He finished a HOT race and is now looking at when he can do another. He’s got me thinking about it, but I’m not ready for a full mary yet, let alone a full IM! You can totally do this!!!!
You are AWESOME! I was watching the Kona IM highlights on television on Sunday and was in awe at those people. This will be something you will never forget. Way to bite the bullet and sign up!
So exciting! That’s in my neck of the woods so maybe I’ll see you there. I would, however, be playing the role of a volunteer. I look forward to your training posts.
Wow, Dimity! My neighbor did the half ironman and he told me anyone can do it if you can find the time to train. Yeah, right!
Wohooo this is great my neck of the woods
Oh my …I have been training with ironman for two years…Insane fun and hard work, I can’t wait to hear about it
I will be attending my second IM @ mont tremblant in just a few weeks
Good luck, Tami: go get ’em!
So awesome! And it’s so beautiful there, what a great course they’re going to have!

Oh you know I love it! Way to go Dimity! I can’t wait to follow the training. I am going to register for IMFL for 2013… I am sure I will throw up at my desk too.

WOOHOO!!!! Way to go Dimity! That is so awesome!
Awesome! You totally rock and are an inspiration! Can’t wait to read about your training (and eventual race)!!!!
WAHOOO!! So excited for you! (and maybe a little that it’s you and not me :) )
Woo Hoo! I’m super excited for you Dimity! You’re gonna ROCK it!!! ;)
Awesome! This is not for wimps, as it’s one of the most difficult courses. Good for you! It will be life-changing, the training alone is a huge undertaking. You’ll do it!
Totally E! Excited for you!
For those of us who cannot even fathom ever attempting ironman event, I look forward to virtuallly living it through you! You have the best supporters and cheerleaders right here. Go Dimity!!!!
My husband has run this twice (just last month) and it is a great event. You will do wonderfully! Best advice, after you finish try to come back for the midnight finishers. Awesome atmosphere and feelings!
I ditto, Suzanne! As much as I loved watching my husband and other family and friends do this race, the midnight finishers will bring tears to your eyes. Hands down my favorite part of Ironman.
Oh, and I’m going to register for the half in Lake Stevens, so I’m only half as crazy as you are. :-)
It will be one of the best experiences of your life! The wanting-to-vomit thing is totally understandable, but wanting to vomit must mean it’s something pretty great, huh?
Perfect timing! Have been following Katie @ runthisamazingday.com who just completed the IM Coeur d A’lene and was thinking how I miss reading her posts building up to the big day…so thank you for taking over!!
Look forward to your updates, Rock On!!
Crazy, but good crazy! Enjoy it, you’ve been wanting it for a long time.
Oh my goodness…I wasn’t expecting to read that! How frickin’ awesome!! I live in the Coeur d’Alene area and you will love it!
awesome!!! you’ll do great! such an inspiration!
I love it. I was recently regretting my commitment to 70.3; now I’m so excited to follow along somewhat on your journey and think ‘thank goodness that’s not me!’
I am thrilled for you! So cool! And you post away about it as much as you want. We want to hear every last detail!
I echo Naomi’s sentiment, that’s the first thing I said out loud in the office when I saw this post. Way to put the exclamation point on BAMR. What an awesome trip it will be!! Way to go Dimity!
I’m so excited for you and can’t wait to hear the stories. I’ve been turning over the idea of a 70.3 so I’m hoping you’ve got nice things to say!
Dimity, you are such an inspiration! GOOD LUCK!!! Can’t wait to follow along on this journey with you! :)
YAY! I am so inspired! <3
Shoot for the stars, D! Can’t wait to hear how awesome it is!
My dad rides his motorcycle with that race every year, helping the racers. I will have to come cheer you on!
Funny, one of my friend’s dad does too!
That takes guts! I admire you so much. Good for your for following this dream!
You are going to be awesome! I can’t wait to hear all about the journey. You inspire me! (and I hope, at some point, to do the same thing)
Awesome! Thanks for the inspiration.
You. Are. Awesome.
Wow! That is so incredibly AMAZING for so many different reasons. My husband just did CDA (much easier then learning to actually spell the name) this year. His brother did it this year and last year so we have been there twice now for the race. Be prepared for the large amount of time and money that goes into doing one of these things, but despite that be prepared to have a life changing experience that you won’t regret. From June 25th 2012 until JUne 25th 2013 that is all my husband did was eat, sleep, and breath Ironman. Always happy to share tips on gear, training, and packing a whole family including a 2 1/2 year old and a two month old for the trip. I am so happy for you and I wish you luck as you prepare for this awesome event!
what do they say? ‘if your dreams don’t scare you, you aren’t dreaming big enough’
Way to jump in! So excited for you! Looking forward to hearing about your journey, the ugly and the glorious moments. You’ve got the “tribe” behind you :)
