Sarah and Dimity dig up some running questions from their Facebook community and, at long last, provide answers. They tell folks in the same boat as Shelle how to train for a 10K or half-marathon on just three runs per week, and they discuss running underwear options for gals like Angie who don’t want to go commando. The mother runners lean in and give advice about how to juggle breastfeeding demands with running, and Sarah talks at length about dealing with plantar fasciitis. Finally, the gals come up with all sorts of solutions doing a 5K with a slower-than-you runner. First up, though: Find out why Dimity had a morning, “from H-E-double-skis,” the day they recorded the podcast.

I’ve followed your blog for quite some time, but this is the first time I’ve listened to a podcast. You two are so fun! I feel like a friend in your conversation. I live in Minnesota and have been running regularly during the winter, so identified with Dimity’s early morning runs. My coldest run so far is -4! Just wanted to see what it would be like. It was okay. Duct tape on the toes of my shoes helps keep the feet warm. You’ve also convinced me that I need to ditch my cotton underwear! Thank you. It was so much fun listening to you and I look forward to doing it again!
Admittedly a little off topic, but I’m wondering where in the world Sarah got that shirt she’s wearing? It is adorable!!
I just listened to this podcast and was very concerned by the level of misinformation about ibuprofen vs. Tylenol. The TAL episode is about Tylenol, not ibuprofen, and these are totally different classes of drugs with different mechanism of action. Ibuprofen is safely prescribed in levels far exceeding the recommended dose on the drug store over-the-counter bottle, while Tylenol is not.
The answer to the question being asked is that yes, you can take ibuprofen before a run, but if you’re taking it for running-related discomfort, it’s not going to do you the most good right before the run. Taking it (or better yet, naproxen/Aleve) the night before will do you the most good for minor strains and aches because it will bring down the inflammation, not just dull the pain. Taking it for cramps or a headache: no problem.
