Your cell phone: It’s more than a camera! (Shocking, we know!)
We asked members of Team Another Mother Runner for their favorite fitness- and health-related mobile apps because, hey, about half our teammates are coaches, so we think they are sporty-smarties!
Peloton
“I use it for guided runs and walks outdoors because it pushes me harder than if I run to just music.” —Brandi Dockett, Many Happy Miles strength coach
Sweat for on-the-go workouts or Spotify for music
“Sweat because I don’t have to think about what to do—I just click ‘go’ and the app takes the guesswork out of it. Spotify because I’m the kind of person who needs music to stay hyped during a hard workout.” —Britany Williams, podcast co-host
The Midlife Maven
“I follow Alicia on Instagram and love her strength programs—super inspiring strength training for 40+ women!” —Jen Harrison, TLAM Club heart-rate training + triathlon coach
AllTrails
“I’ve used other tracking apps in the past but I no longer care to compare myself to anyone else. Joe Shmoe ran this .3-mile section of trail faster than anyone else? Snore. Give me a map of the trail, distance, and elevation, and at the end of the day that’s all I need. Bonus: People post pictures of their favorite views so I get a taste of what’s to come when I hit the trail.” —Cathy Engstrom, TLAM Club website manager + newsletter editor
Garmin
“It tracks my steps, my cycle, my runs (and will do my sleep if I sleep with it). I like to be able to go back and look at the runs, but I think the most helpful aspect is tracking my menstrual cycle. I never did this regularly before using the Garmin app. Very insightful!” —Christy Diller, Many Happy Miles physical therapist
Strava (the free version!)
“I love the local legend aspect. It’s all about how many times you run the route to be a legend! It also compares the same chunks you run over and over. It’s fun to unconsciously watch those times get better!” —Mandy Cherry, TLAM Club 5K coach
