Form Analysis: Swim

Out of stock

As you may already know from personal experience, swimming is not a sport you can pick up with sheer muscle and determination.

In fact, trying harder to swim faster might actually produce a negative effect: More splashing and thrashing will only exhaust—and frustrate—you, not make you the smooth swimmer you’d like to be.

Truthfully, nearly every swimmer can benefit from an expert coach watching her form in the water and offering feedback. If you’re a beginner, learning and imprinting proper form will make a huge difference in your workouts and performance. If you’re a more advanced swimmer, small technique adjustments will improve your efficiency and speed in the water.

FORM ANALYSIS IS A HELPFUL TOOL FOR SWIMMERS WHO:
○ Are fairly new to swimming;
○ Are intimidated by the swim portion of the triathlon;
○ Finish the swim portion of a triathlon exhausted, and are unable to utilize their fitness on the bike and run;
○ Have neck, shoulder, or other pain while swimming;
○ Want to become more efficient in the water; or
○ Are focused on minimizing the risk of future injury.

The Details

  • After you register, you’ll receive a detailed email, including a short questionnaire and information on how to properly film the swimming video so the coaches can see you from all angles.
  • You email the video + short questionnaire to the coaches, and set up a time for a 30-minute phone call with one of them to discuss your swimming and form fixes.
  • After your discussion, you’ll receive another email with up to five things to work on, including drills + form focus points.
  • You spend about five weeks working on those points; ideally, you are able to swim three times a week during this period.
  • Five weeks later, you email the coaches with a new video, and they’ll reply to you with a final email with feedback.

We’ve enlisted an amazing pair of coaches—Jennifer Harrison and Elizabeth Waterstraat who oversee the Heart + Sole and Triathlon programs—to be your expert second set of eyes. With video you shoot from the pool deck and any smartphone, the pair, who has over 40 years of combined coaching experience, will analyze your form, diagnosing any injury red flags and offering suggestions to increase efficiency and speed. They’ll guide you with specific drills designed especially for your situation.

QUESTIONS + ANSWERS

Truthfully, nearly every swimmer can benefit from an expert coach watching her form in the water and offering feedback. If you’re a beginner, learning and imprinting proper form will make a huge difference in your workouts and performance. If you’re a more advanced swimmer, small technique adjustments will improve your efficiency and speed in the water.

As we mentioned above, Form Analysis is particularly helpful for swimmers/triathletes who:
○ Are fairly new to swimming;
○ Are intimidated by the swim portion of the triathlon;
○ Finish the swim portion of a triathlon exhausted, and are unable to utilize their fitness on the bike and run;
○ Have neck, shoulder, or other pain while swimming;
○ Want to become more efficient in the water; or
○ Are focused on minimizing the risk of future injury.

Jennifer Harrison and Elizabeth Waterstraat, a pair of expert coaches who also oversee the Train Like a Mother Club who oversee the Heart + Sole and Triathlon programs.  Liz is a USA Triathlon Youth & Junior + Level 2 and US Master’s Swimming Level III coach, and Jennifer is a USA Triathlon Level 1 + 2 certified coach. The dynamic duo has coached all levels of triathletes from beginners to elite for over 40 combined years, and use swimming form video analysis with most of their private clients.

When you register for Form Analysis, you receive a detailed email that includes a short questionnaire and instructions on how to film your swimming video. Your videos will be shot from the deck, not underwater, so any smartphone can be used to shoot the video. Once you get these items completed, you send it to the specified email address.

After you purchase Form Analysis, you have two weeks to get your video to the coaches.

After you email your video and short questionnaire, you receive a response that allows you to book a call with Coach  Jen or Liz at a time that works with your schedule. You discuss your swimming background and form on a 30-minute call.

You receive an email with up to five recommendations for drills and form focus points. You spend about five weeks integrating them, then film another video. You email that second video to the coaches, and they respond with a final email with feedback on your improvements.

You can absolutely register for another round of Form Analysis and repeat the process.

Absolutely! Because of your training load, you’ll be primed to absorb the recommendations. Just be sure to schedule your Form Analysis toward the beginning of your training cycle, so you have plenty of time before race day to integrate changes.

Ideally, you can swim three times a week as you work on your form.

We totally get that life happens. After your call, you have up to eight weeks to send your follow-up video.

No. We’re confident that if you diligently integrate the recommendations, your swimming will benefit. We are unable to offer refunds after you begin the process.
