Dimity and Sarah recount a brutally hot run they recently survived in Sacramento, showing sometimes they don’t heed their own advice. After their done laughing at their own stupidity (and chafing!), they answer a few questions from mother runners, including how to come back from a stress fracture and how to run races on a budget. Finally the mothers ponder how to stay motivated and gain satisfaction despite slowing down, and SBS admits she’s actually been contemplating stepping up to an ultramarathon. Listen all the way through to hear the debated word of the week.

WHAT? An ultra!!! GO SBS! I never have done a 26.2 – I jumped from a 13.1 to 31 mi (50k). It’s a huge challenge and an adventure. Great job to both Dimity and Sarah. Keep us posted.
http://www.ultrarunning.com/calendar.html SBS, here’s the ultra race calendar – hopefully you can find one that’s a road ultra. There’s 6 listed in Oregon and 24 in Washington. Many in California!!
Great podcast, as usual, ladies! One other thought for the mom who is trying to save money on race fees: one of our local race organizers, NYCruns, has a system where if you volunteer at one of their races, you get a credit to run one for free! I wish more race directors would catch on to this idea. I think it wouldn’t hurt to approach organizers in your area to see if you can bargain with them. Volunteers are sometimes in short supply.
