Best Skincare Products for Running: the next edition of Another Mother Runner Gears Up. We have #motherrunners—put key running gear to the test, then deliver the results so you can grab the gear that works best for your running and body.

By Allison Pattillo

Your regular runs, while amazing, also provide daily doses of sweat, grime and exposure to the elements that can be brutal to your skin. Yes, sweating is good for you–it gets blood pumping and cleans out pores–but problems may arise when it lingers or mixes with makeup and other beauty products to potentially clog pores. Just as everyone has their very own running style, there is no one right skincare solution. Thankfully the beauty industry seems to have a product for everything!

Instead of getting lost in the vast wilderness of beauty and skincare offerings alone, we asked trusted BAMRbassadors and AMR staff to share their favorite go-to products and why they love them. We’re excited to try all of these!

We’re always looking for good recommendations, so, tell us, what’s your favorite skincare or beauty product for on the run?

Zealios Sun Barrier SPF 45 Zinc Sunscreen

This sunscreen feels great and absorbs easily without the streaky white blotches I get with other zinc products. It is the best I’ve found for swimming and sweating; it stays put through my longest workouts without needing to reapply and it doesn’t sting my eyes. –Recommendation by Aimee from Springfield, MA

$14.95

Ruby’s Body Balm

This all-natural balm (with just five ingredients!) is, by far, the best for preventing chafing I have ever used–and believe me I’ve tried a bunch. It smells great, works perfectly and rinses off easily. Don’t balk at the price tag–one tube usually lasts a year and half to two years for me. It also is great for lips when it is hot, cold or windy. –Recommendation by Kate from Indianola, IA

$16.50

W.O.D.Welder Natural Bar Soap

I’m not terribly interested in most beauty products, and I’m not great at remembering to apply sunscreen (shh, don’t tell my dermatologist!), but my favorite everyday post-run indulgence is this soap. The scent is yummy and equal to the worst post-summer-long-run odors, plus it’s in bar form with no plastic packaging, meaning it’s friendlier to the environment as well as my personal microbiome! As a treat, I love their bath bomb in the same scent. –Recommendation by Pam from Decatur, GA

$6.99

Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40

As an outdoor enthusiast, I’m always on the search for affordable, high quality sunscreen. And, as a runner, I need the protection to not drip in my eyes and render me blind! This checks all the boxes, and even sets matte and powdery so I can wear it under my makeup for maximum protection when I’m out on the town. Reef-safe, vegan and cruelty-free, it’s as good for the planet as it is for my face! –Recommendation by Mary from Squamish, WA

$34

Garnier Skin Active Micellar Cleansing Water with Vitamin C

I love this micellar water. I typically run in the evenings after work due to a busy schedule, and use this to remove the day’s makeup, leaving my face feeling fresh. Plus, I don’t have to worry about clogged pores. –Recommendation by Courtney from Olathe, KS

$8.99

Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three

For the swimmers in the BAMR community…this is a must. I like to use this clarifying shampoo weekly to remove excess hair products, sweat and more (including chlorine, iron and minerals that can give hair that ‘chlorine green’ tint). –Recommendation by Courtney from Olathe, KS

$11.50

Tizo Ultra Zinc Body & Face Tinted SPF 40 Mineral Sunscreen

Sport sunscreen is often a Sophie’s Choice: protect your skin or avoid burning your retinas. This sunscreen is the only product that has stood up to the challenge of summer running for me. It is a bit spendy but a little goes a long way. Bonus: it’s tinted (also available non-tinted) and perfect for post-race power photos! –Recommendation by Courtney from Louisville, KY

$41.99

Kinesys SPF 30 Clear Zinc

This natural zinc sunscreen, with 25% zinc oxide, goes on white so you can see where you put it, but then rubs in clear so it doesn’t make you look like you leaned against a freshly painted white wall by getting white marks all over your running gear! It even smells good. –Recommendation by Sarah from Portland, OR

$29.99

Heritage Store Rosewater Refreshing Facial Mist

The light mist feels cool and refreshing on hot skin, and the delicate scent smells lovely without being overpowering (seriously because otherwise it would give me an asthma attack). It’s long been my secret weapon for smelling fresh during post-run errands, and a spritz is also a pleasing pick-me-up when I’m sitting at my desk. –Recommendation by Allison from Glenwood Springs, CO
